Actually, there will be no tales. So much... stuff is compressed into one week at Burning Man that the best I'm going to be able to do here is convey how incredibly [insert superlative] the event is. Words just can't do it justice. Nor can pictures or movies. As much as I hate to echo the Burner party line, you cannot possibly "get" Burning Man without experiencing it in person. No, seriously. In my wildest dreams as to what Burning Man could be I would not have guessed at the sheer magnitude of it, the imagination and energy spent on creating what truly is an alternate world. My fellow "virgins" and I found ourselves constantly asking questions like, "Where the hell are we?" and "Is this actually happening?" The net result of being thrust into such a bizarre (not to mention harsh) environment is a forced reconsideration of who you really are. After I got home I realized that after less than one week in that upside-down world I had already grown to feel more at home there than in my actual home; suddenly my possessions and the environment I had carefully built around myself seemed foreign and irrelevant. Granted, I haven't begun selling it all and searching for a commune to join, but I do feel fundamentally altered by the experience. And I will be going back. But just because my explanation can't do justice to the experience doesn't mean I can't at least give you a taste of what I saw while I was there.
