Conclusions
It was too potent an idea to throw away, but I certainly didn't want to create something that would enable a person I didn't know to take their own life. So a couple of years ago I decided to write a short story about it instead. That eventually became a long story, then a novella. Now it is a fiction novel in development, my first. The project is a large one that I'm in no particular hurry to complete, but I hope to have it published when it is finished (my "secret" hope is that it is one day turned into a movie). Late in college, I thought of an idea for a sculpture that I was afraid to actually build: a mechanized chair that would kill you if you sat in it. People are surrounded with suicide implements every day, but this particular device would be designed exclusively for that purpose, and would do so in a gruesome and unquestionable manner.
